Nice hinge but warranty is no good

My boat manufacturer used these Gemlux hinges when they built my boat. Its been three years and the hinges are no longer friction hinges. What did I get from Gemlux when I asked about replacement hinges. Jerry from Gemlux said that the hinges looks misused and they are not going to warranty them. I want to know how you can misuse a hinge..... But the shining star here is that they gave me 20% off of new hinges and got them to me fast.
